1. A Pebble Proposal

As if wearing a tuxedo every day wasn’t classy enough, when a male Gentoo penguin finds the right partner, he proposes… with a rock! Only not the shiny kind. Gentoo penguins live on rocky shores and use pebbles to build their nests during mating season. During courtship, a male will search the beach for the smoothest pebble and offer it to a female. If she likes the gift, she’ll use it for the nest the couple will build together.

Bonus fact: Most penguins are monogamous and spend their lives with a single partner.
